The short version. SayIt reads your notifications out loud. Everything it reads stays on your phone. No notification content, and no personal data of any kind, is sent to basilbase or to anyone else. There are no analytics, no advertising, and no accounts.

What the app can see

To do its job, SayIt uses Android's notification access permission. Once you grant it, the app receives the notifications your phone displays — the posting app's name, the title and sender, and the message text.

It also reads:

Installed apps that have a launcher icon, so you can choose which apps get read aloud. SayIt does not request the broad QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES permission.
Connected audio devices — whether a Bluetooth or wired headset is present, to decide whether reading is allowed.
Battery level and charging state, only if you turn on battery announcements.
The accelerometer, only if you turn on shake-to-stop.

What the app does with it

Notification text is converted to speech by the text-to-speech engine already installed on your device, and then discarded. Processing happens entirely on the device.

If you leave Save notification history enabled, a short log of what was read is stored in the app's own private storage on your phone so you can replay recent items. It is never uploaded. You can turn the log off, or erase it, under History → Clear history.

Your settings are stored in the app's private preferences on the device. If you use Setup → Export, a settings file is written wherever you choose to save it; nothing is uploaded by the app.

What is never collected

No notification content is transmitted off the device.
No contacts, messages, photos, location, or device identifiers are collected.
No analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking SDKs are included.
No account or sign-in is required, and none is offered.

Third parties

SayIt contains no third-party SDKs.

Speech is produced by the text-to-speech engine on your device (for example Google Text-to-Speech or Samsung TTS), which is a separate app governed by its own privacy policy. Some TTS engines can synthesise speech in the cloud; whether that happens, and what it means for your data, is determined by that engine's settings — not by SayIt. If this matters to you, choose an engine with offline voices installed, under Voice → Change TTS engine.

Data retention and deletion

There is no server, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete. Everything the app stores lives on your device and is removed when you uninstall the app. The notification history can also be cleared at any time from History → Clear history, and all settings can be restored to defaults from the reset control on the home screen.

Children

SayIt is not directed at children and is rated for users aged 18 and over. It reads personal messages aloud and is not designed for use by children.
